Election Round-up

Bringing back the things I like and things I don't like for a special election round-up edition. I'll try and look at the positive first:

Things I like:
-Kerry won Oregon: My friends that volunteered to get Kerry elected can take heart that they did a great job in getting the vote out.
-Democrats take the Oregon State Senate: So even though we face some tough times ahead in Oregon, at least one part of the legislature will work towards our best interest.
-Mult. Co. tax repeal defeated: Portland public schools and county services have survived a close shave, and besides a complete lack of stable state funding, things look good for schools.

Things I don't like:
-Bush wins: Not much to say about this right now. I just hope that the nation can survive another four years.
-Measure 36 & 37 passed: I am not really suprised that gay marraige will be banned, but it is still depressing that it will be written into the constitution. I actually think that the approval of Measure 37 posses the most danger to this state.
-Youth vote doesn't: I really thought this was the year that the youth vote would make a difference, and it could have. In the end, exit polls show that the 18 to 29 age group voted at pretty much the same rate as 2000. Aparently, the youth of the nation didn't take P. Diddy's death threat seriously.

Blog 2.0

Thus begins the second chapter of my blogging. I started out back in January of 2001 with my first entry using Blogger. I liked blogger and what it meant, but after a while I outgrew it's capablilities. That was about last July. Around that time I bought this domain (www.hawktaildesign.com) and downloaded MovableType. I haven't been updating my blog much since then because without good blogging software it just isn't much fun. It has taken me a while to finally install MT and get it up to speed. It really doesn't take that much time, but I honestly just haven't been making the time.
So finally I made the time and here we go. I plan on upgrading my other blog (AllianceWatch) eventually, but I don't know when that will happen. I also plan on putting up my graphic design portfolio at the root of this domain eventually.

Something I did occasionally on this blog in the past was a list of things I like and didn't like about a particular subject. So here it goes for MT.

Things I like about MT:
-Stylesheets
-Easy to use
-Lots of freedom

Things I don't like about MT so much:
-Having to make a creative stylesheet (which I haven't done yet)
-Typing links
-Typing other html

So I saw "Punch Drunk

So I saw "Punch Drunk Love" this weekend. Not a bad movie. I really think that Adam Sandler did a good job, but I have a feeling that the director deserves a lot of the credit for this. Anyway, I am having one of my typical slow Tuesdays. See, I work Tuesday - Saturdays, so Tuesdays are my Mondays. While everyone else in the office is getting in the swing of things, I am trudging slowly through my day. Anyway . . .

Since I have decided to

Since I have decided to write a little every week, whether I feel like it or not, every once in a while I will have little to say, and no good way to say it. Well today is one of those days. I am feeling particularly unenthusiastic about writing today, but I figure I might as well anyway. Had a great dinner last night. Also had a decent bottle of wine.

Things I like right now:
-Lymericks

Things I don't like right now:
-Media coverage of the 9/11 anniversery

OK, back from my vacation.

OK, back from my vacation. I went to Suttle Lake in Oregon's Central Cascade Range. It is a beautiful lake in the Deschutes National Forest with a great campground (Blue Bay) and lots of things to do. I went mountain biking, hike Black Butte, went kayaking on the lake, visited the town of Sisters, walked around Smith Rock and just sat around the camp and relaxed. It was a ton of fun. If anyone is reading this, it isn't showing (on my free counter at least). But, since I started, and I kind of like writing it, here goes another.

Things I like right now:
-Portland IndyMedia
-Portland's Hathorne District (the Street Fair ROCKED)
-Trees

Things I don't like so much (or at all):
-My first day back at work
-Bush's "Forest Policy" (Cutting the trees for the forest, throwing out the baby with the bath water, cutting off your nose despite your face)
-The Portland Police Departments actions during the August 22 protests

Well it has been a

Well it has been a long time since I last posted to my Weblog. Let's see what has happened in a year and two months? Well, I got layed-off, lived off unemployement for almost a year and then got a job. Not much I guess.

I think this whole weblog thing is cool, but I am not sure how much I will actually use it. I guess looking back at my posting "history" things don't look very good for my future posting. I will try to buck the trend and maybe write in the my blog a couple of times of week. Maybe I can find some way to keep it interesting. Maybe a list of some type. Here it goes:

Things I like right now:
-Ad Busters
-Mac OS X
-My new job
-Internet Radio

Things I don't like so much:
-The Stock Market
-The price of the next Mac OS X upgrade
-The RIAA
