Must See Film

On Saturday I went with Megan and her friend Dannie to see a film at the Laurelhurst Theater called "The Revolution will not be Televised". I heartily recommend that everyone go see this documentary. It is currently showing at the Laurelhurst Theater for only $3.

This movie documents the brief coup d'état that occurred in April of 2002 against the democratically elected leader of Venezuela Hugo Chavez. It also shows how the Venezuelan corporate media, the Bush Administration and the elite of Venezuela conspired to overthrow Chavez. The most amazing thing is that this Irish film crew was in the presidential palace before the coup, after the coup leaders took over the palace and when Chavez and his supporters regained control over the palace and the nation.

This film showed to me what the Bush administration thinks a Latin American democracy should look like (here's a clue: an unelected president who dismisses the supreme court and national assembly, fires the attorney general and appoints his own attorney general).

I also noticed that Venevision, one of the Venezuelan corporate media companies that participated in the coup against Chavez, was the producer of my favorite spanish languages soap opera, Rebeca.
